Synopsis:
SPENCER (
Jesse Bradford Bring It On, Clockstoppers) had a crush on the adorable MELORA (
Mia Kirshner Exotica, Mad City) when he was 10 years old, but in those days she was unattainable. Fifteen years later, they meet again in Los Angeles when she crashes her car into his at a traffic light.
When Spencer learns they will both be working in the mail at the same advertising agency, he knows he now has two missions in life: to become the agency’s superstar and to win Melora’s heart.
Spencer is renting a room in a ramshackle mansion owned by two hipster doofusses named EZRA (
David Krumholtz Ten Thing I Hate About You, The Mexican) and FELDY (
Adam Goldberg Saving Private Ryan). The two are budding filmmakers who continually disrupt Spencer’s life as they busy themselves shooting their most personal movie, which they plan on submitting to a film contest. They ask Spencer to play the male lead in return for rent-free living for two months and he readily agrees. Only when they begin shooting does he find out the naked truth that he is the star in a porn movie and has to deliver his lines with no clothes on.
Back in the mailroom, Melora is stuck in a self-destructive relationship with CRAIG (
Brad Rowe Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss, The 70’s), an executive at the advertising firm. No wonder than when Spencer steps into the triangle, introduced by a loopy mailroom clerk LOUIS (
Giovanni Ribisi Gone in Sixty Seconds, Saving Private Ryan), the relationship between the three becomes a crazy and funny dance of love and hate.
When everything seems to hit rock bottom, the advertising agency loses its most valuable client. That’s showtime for Spencer to change his fortune from being the biggest loser of all time to becoming the savior of the day. Throughout this consistently surprising romantic comedy, we et to know Spencer’s grandmother. Although she’s been in heaven for sometime, she visits her grandson at crucial moments to give him her grandmotherly advice.
If you want to know just how happy the ending is, you should stick with every last laugh of this witty comedy.
